Bang up job with holiday decorations

By From page A10 | December 16, 2012

It’s been said that Christmas brings out the child in us all, and Derrick and Gayna Bangs’ home, 4350 Cowell Blvd., brings all the joy and wonder of being a child to life. It’s overall splendor earned it Beset Theme honors in The Davis Enterprise Holiday Decorating Contest. There are homemade cut-outs of childhood favorites like the Peanuts gang, a model train overhead (unless it’s raining or windy) and more. Said Derrick, who administered this contest for many years as The Enterprise’s arts/entertainment editor, “I’ve added something every year: sometimes more lights, sometimes more wooden figures, sometimes something else.” His most ambitious addition is the lights-and-music show that goes off every hour on the hour. There is so much to see, Bang invites visitors to walk around the driveway or even along the path to the front door for a better view. As one young judge pointed out, it’s a little like a living “I Spy” game. Seeking out hidden treasures will have even the oldest visitor feeling like a kid again.
