Barbecue celebrates winter shelter program

A celebration will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, on the west patio of Davis Community Church across from Central Park. This annual event will recognize the community support for the Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter of Davis, which provides services to the homeless.

In this eighth year of operation, the program served approximately 130 guests with a hot meal and a warm, dry place to sleep in the wettest and coldest parts the year.

From Dec. 1 through March 15, 40 congregations, organizations and business and a total of 1,600-plus community volunteers made this possible by donating time and energy. They provided food, transportation between the intake site and that week’s host site, hospitality, supervision overnight and supplies.

“Please come help us celebrate this work, thank the City Council for its support, meet the guests and visit with the volunteers who made it all possible,” a news release said. “Perhaps their stories will inspire you to become involved next year.”

To ensure sufficient food, online RSVPs are requested at http://irws.ivolunteer.com/bbq. More information on the program is available at www.interfaith-shelter.org. Questions may be addressed to [email protected].
