Big-rig crash closes I-5 near Woodland

By From page A2 | March 28, 2013

Interstate 5 east of Woodland was shut down for several hours Wednesday night after two big rigs and a passenger vehicle collided on the Elkhorn Causeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred at about 5:30 p.m. when one rig rear-ended another, sending the front rig into the passenger car, Officer Bryan Konvalin said. Both drivers and a passenger in the big rigs sustained minor injuries in the crash, which spilled about 40 gallons of diesel fuel, a small amount of which went into the Yolo Bypass area.

Officers closed both southbound traffic lanes during the cleanup and investigation process, causing traffic to be diverted to Interstate 80 via Highway 113. All lanes reopened at about 8:30 p.m.
