Birding trip set to Bodega Bay

By From page A6 | September 05, 2014

Chris Dunford will lead a birding trip in search of song birds, vagrants, migrating shorebirds and Mexico migrants on Saturday, Sept. 13. The group will visit Bodega Bay, both the Harbor and the Head, and Doran County Park Beach.

There are good bird photo opportunities around the harbor, and the trip’s emphasis will be on quality views as well as good number of species.

The weather along the coast can be surprisingly warm in September, but it also can be foggy, windy and downright cold. Sunscreen is necessary either way.

Bring binoculars, a spotting scope if you have one, a lunch, snacks and beverages. There also will be opportunities to buy clam chowder and coffee drinks.

Those who plan on driving are asked to RSVP to Dunford at 530-902-3576 or christopher.j.dunford@gmailcom. The entrance to Doran Beach costs $7 per car.

The trip is a two-hour drive each way.
