Body found in truck identified

February 13, 2011 |

The man whose body was found inside his truck Friday in a remote area of Woodland has been identified as Michael Kelley, a 58-year-old transient, Yolo County coroner’s officials said Saturday.

Kelley appeared to have been living out of his pickup and may have been dead inside the vehicle “for over a week,” Chief Deputy Coroner Robert LaBrash said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine Kelley’s cause of death, though police and LaBrash have said there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play.

Woodland police Sgt. Dan Letamendi said authorities were alerted to the body at about 1:45 p.m. Friday. Arriving officers found Kelley in the cab of a black Dodge pickup, which was parked adjacent to a vacant warehouse in the 1400 block of Churchill Downs Avenue, an industrial area in northeast Woodland.

No weapons were found at the scene, Letamendi said, though he added that the death has been classified as “suspicious” pending further investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800 or (530) 666-2411.
