Art auction helps student pay restitution

By From page A10 | December 09, 2012

The Davis Antirepression Crew is holding an art auction fundraiser to support legal expenses for a UC Davis student who says he is experiencing political repression on campus.

The auction is from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the TCS Building (Art Annex) at UCD. Individuals also can view and bid on online at davisantirepressioncrew.org/auction. Artwork has been donated by locally and nationally known artists, including Malaquias Montoya, Emory Douglas, Carlos Jackson, Tom Bills and Jos Sances, as well as UCD students and community members.

Proceeds will be used to support Tomas Matzat, a UCD student who must pay more than $5,000 in restitution after he reached a plea agreement for graffiti vandalism on campus. Matzat also was arrested at an Occupy UC Davis protest immediately before the pepper-spraying on Nov. 18, 2011.
