Author returns to California for book-signing

By From page A7 | May 05, 2013

Author and doctor Joe Joy will be at The Avid Reader, 617 Second St. in downtown Davis, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss his new book, “The Year of My Returning Home.”

“The Year of My Returning Home” begins in San Francisco where the author has just completed a year of fellowship at the University of California. Among his few belongings, he is returning home to China with a new name, given to him by a Greek immigrant who hears something that sounds like “Joe Joy” when the author introduces himself.

“This is the story of a poet turned physician by a ‘Cultural Revolution,’ “a news release says. “The prose is pleasantly unpolished in a way that feels personal, sincere and human. His story is a part of China‚Äôs history and carries the same timeless quality.”

Joe Joy will be coming to California to visit friends and colleagues at the University of California who have arranged this book-signing on his behalf.
