Bengali new year celebration planned

Mouth-watering dishes from Bengal and a colorful cultural program featuring children in dazzling traditional dress will welcome the Bengali new year 1420 on Saturday, April 13. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Harper Junior High School, 4000 E. Covell Blvd.

Food vendors will provide ilish, panta, pitha, biryani, vorta, khichuree, curries, chotpoti, piazu, nimkee, shondesh, chomcom, rosgolla, homemade cake, rosmalai, kabob and tea. Other vendors will be selling clothing and jewelry.

In addition, free rickshaw rides will be offered from noon to 2 p.m.

Admission is $5 general or $10 per family. Tickets will be available at the door.
