Cooperatives will be recognized at “Co-op Day at the Capitol” from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, on the west steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento.
The United Nations’ designation of 2012 as International Year of Cooperatives presents an opportunity to learn about the many contributions of co-ops, a news release said. California cooperatives create employment, bring food to our tables and provide essential services like healthy food, financial services, housing and child care. This event promotes cooperatives as vital democratic business models, the release said.
The day will feature co-op displays with information and samples from co-ops such as Blue Diamond Growers and Sun-Maid Growers.
