Crafts fair celebrates two years at park

By From page A3 | August 03, 2014

The Square Tomatoes Crafts Fair will celebrate its second anniversary in Central Park on Sunday, Aug. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with brownies, dancing and a contest.

The Cloth and Fiber Contest offers a $50 prize for the best item made from yarn, felt or cloth. This includes cloth dolls, clothing, silk screening, knitting or any other cloth or fiber creation. Any local resident can compete.

In 2012, Square Tomatoes started with 15 booths in a parking lot and grew to a monthly festival in Central Park with 30 to 40 vendor booths, a nine-player jazz band and dancing. The fair showcases new and young vendors as well as experienced instructors from the UC Davis Craft Center.

Recently, Square Tomatoes added a Comfort Café where guests can sit, read, listen to music and chat. Dancing is encouraged. Square Tomatoes provides space in the shade for the jazz band and all visitors who want to dance.
