Mayors and City Council members from throughout Yolo County will show their support for hungry senior citizens in local communities Wednesday by delivering Meals On Wheels and working in the kitchens and dining rooms of the Elderly Nutrition Program’s congregate meal programs.

The event is part of the program’s March For Meals campaign.

“We are excited about having our mayors, council members and other elected officials participate in our Mayors for Meals Day event,” said Nicki McCabe, executive director of the Elderly Nutrition Program.

“Our elected officials have been involved with our program in the past and the national Mayors for Meals Day is an excellent way to continue our relationship,” said Nicki McCabe, executive director of the Elderly Nutrition Program. “We thank these local leaders for stepping up to the plate and joining our efforts to end senior hunger in Yolo County by the year 2020.

“Now more than ever during this time of budget cuts, Meals On Wheels programs … need support from elected leaders to continue providing the nutritious meals and human contact on which our seniors so desperately depend,” McCabe said.
