Friends of Gohechi plan popcorn and lemonade fundraiser

Friends of Gohechi is planning three popcorn and lemonade fundraisers this month in support of the Gohechi English Medium school in Arusha, Tanzania.

This English immersion school serves orphans and low-income students without any government assistance. Two Friends of Gohechi — Claire Williams, 11, and Moira Williams, 12 — visited the school in June. They were impressed with the enthusiasm and professionalism of students and staff, but also worried about the lack of supplies. For example, the school doesn’t have electricity. It would take only $500 to connect the school to the electrical grid. Friends of Gohechi already has raised funds to purchase paper, pens, books and erasers.

All money collected (not just profits) from these fundraisers will be used to purchase supplies for Gohechi. A popcorn/lemonade combo will cost $1, while a big cup of lemonade will cost 75 cents. A small bag of popcorn will cost 40 cents.

The fundraisers will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Friday, Aug. 17, between 1400 and 1409 Cypress Lane in Davis.
