Garden workshops offer practical tips

By From page A5 | January 30, 2013

Yolo County Master Gardeners will host two free workshops Saturday in the Central Park Gardens at Third and B streets in downtown Davis. From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Peg Smith will present “Getting a Start on Summer Vegetables.” Easy techniques for early seed starting indoors will demonstrated. Information and handouts will cover what and when to plant vegetables for a year-round seasonal garden for Yolo County.

From 11 a.m. to noon, Arlen Feldman will demonstrate “Water-Wise Irrigation Methods” for both vegetable and ornamental gardens. By installing water-wise irrigation as the garden is planted in the spring, a gardener will be able save time and water in the hot, dry summer months, he says.

For more information, call Smith at 530-756-8409.
