By From page A5 | March 12, 2014

Want to learn more about how to start a garden? The Hanna and Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden, on the west side of 137 N. Cottonwood St. in Woodland, will host two free community “Gardening 101” classes in March.

These one-hour classes on Saturday, March 15, and Wednesday, March 19, will cover gardening basics, such as how to prepare your soil for planting, what to plant for a summer garden, and an introduction to integrative pest management (pesticide-free approach to gardening).

No gardening experience is required, only an interest in gardening. Gloves and shoes for working in the dirt are recommended.

Classes are taught by the Master Gardeners of Yolo County at 10 a.m March 15 and 5:15 p.m. March 19. In the event of heavy rain, class will be canceled.

Pre-registration is required. Contact Rebecca Tryon at the Yolo County Health Department with questions or to register for one of the classes at 530-666-8640 or [email protected].
