I-House Friendship Program recruits local host families

By From page A12 | November 28, 2012

Imagine yourself thousands of miles from home in a foreign culture where you must adapt to a new environment. Would you appreciate a supportive and welcoming local host? International House, Davis, offers a Friendship Program to do just this.

“We match international visitors, students and scholars with a local host family,” said coordinator Lorrie Bortuzzo. “For the visitors, the local family is a window on aspects of American culture and a way to help familiarize them with the Davis community.

“For the family, it’s a relationship that provides a unique opportunity to learn about another culture and develop a new friendship.”

Meeting for coffee, inviting visitors to your home for dinner or holiday celebrations, joining them at school events or in the community for special events or going to the local Farmers Market are just some of the many activities hosts can engage in with the foreign visitors.

Local families interested in the program are invited to pick up a local host application at International House, 10 College Park, Davis, or go to www.internationalhousedavis.org. If you have any questions regarding the program, email Bortuzzo at [email protected].
