By From page A3 | January 13, 2013

Rose and fruit tree pruning classes will be offered by Yolo County Master Gardeners at 10 and 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in the greenhouse orchard area at Woodland Community College, 2300 E. Gibson Road in Woodland.

At 10 a.m., attendees will learn basic rose pruning techniques for hybrid teas, floribundas and miniatures at the college’s rose garden. Different types of pruning tools and how to care for them also will be demonstrated.

At 11 a.m., attention turns to fruit tree pruning, where attendees will learn how training and pruning done during the winter dormant season directs new growth, helps create a desired tree structure and encourages good spring fruit set. Other winter care of fruit trees also will be discussed.

If it’s raining, the classes will be taught indoors.
