Mind-training classes set at Shambhala Center

The Davis Shambhala Center is offering a mind-training class beginning Thursday and continuing for five consecutive Thursdays at 7 p.m. at 133 D St., Suite H.

The 59 Lojong slogans of Atisha have been used by Tibetan Buddhists for 1,000 years to help meditation students remember and focus on the principles of “mind training.” Through this, they can arouse bodhicitta — loving kindness for themselves and compassion for others.

“These teachings provide direct, practical instruction in how to meet the ordinary situations of life with intelligence and compassion under all situations,” a news release said.

The suggested donation for the class is $100, but people may pay what they can.
