Northern California photographer to speak at forum

By From page A4 | April 13, 2014

The Woodland Camera Forum will present a photography program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Norton Hall, 70 Cottonwood St., Woodland. The guest photographer will be Douglas Parks.

Born in San Francisco in 1955, Parks has spent virtually his entire life in Northern California. He began taking pictures as a young boy with his Brownie Automatic that he took with him everywhere. He is inspired by nature, spending time outdoors with his father through hiking, camping, hunting and fishing throughout the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Never rushing to take the photo, he returns to areas many times until “things are just right.” He takes the time to understand what it was that drew his eye toward that subject before pressing the shutter release.

In addition to Parks’ program, the members of the Camera Forum will show recent works of their own and will have an open discussion.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call Susan Bovey at 530-219-0955.
