Hearing screening for four- and five-year-old children, sponsored by Hear! Here!, the local chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America, was completed in April and May. Of 361 children tested, 17 were identified with possible hearing loss.
Children at preschools in Winters, Esparto, Woodland and Davis were tested in the Center for Hearing Health special van. Funding for this project was provided by the Lion’s Clubs of Yolo County, Woodland Kiwanis, the Woodland Healthcare Community Benefits Committee and Soroptimist International of Davis.
Preschool directors were informed of the children who failed the screening, with advice to encourage the parents of the child to have a more detailed test by an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser. The purpose of the hearing screening is to find any child who needs hearing assistance before they enter elementary school.
