Remote-controlled gliders face off at soaring challenge

By From page A3 | June 18, 2013

The Sacramento Valley Soaring Society will host its 22nd annual Summer Soaring Challenge this weekend at Grasslands Park, at Mace Boulevard and Tremont Road southeast of Davis.

Pilots from throughout California and other states will be competing in five classes. Radio-controlled gliders, some with 14-foot wingspans, will hunt for thermals to stay aloft for a specified amount of time and then make a precision target landing.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Food and drinks will be available. For a map and information, visit www.svss.org.
