Safe routes to school explored at community forum

By From page A3 | March 15, 2013

Local residents can learn more about efforts to ensure that Davis children can safely get to school at a community forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A St.

The city’s Street Smarts Program will conduct walking and biking audits at 11 schools during April and May, observing conditions during the morning drop-off and developing recommendations to improve walking and bicycling conditions for students around schools.

Community input is welcome, organizers said, including recommendations for how to improve safe school access for all children; suggested routes for walking and biking to school; and ways to encourage more children to walk, bike or car-pool.
