See radio-control gliders soar above rural park

By From page A11 | March 08, 2013

The public is invited to attend the Sacramento Valley Soaring Society’s season opener, a thermal duration contest, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Grasslands Park. The parks is at Mace Boulevard and Tremont Road about 3 miles south of Davis.

In the contest, radio-control gliders with wing spans of 10 to 12 feet are launched with a winch and try to stay aloft for a specific amount time by hunting for thermals. A precision spot landing earns additional points.

Parking and admission are free. Food and drinks will be available at the event. For a map and more information, visit www.svss.org.
