Out of the Darkness — Suicide Prevention, a student organization at UC Davis, is working with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to host the first Out of the Darkness Campus Walk at UCD.
Community members will be joining together to walk in remembrance of the past and in hope for the future at the free event on Saturday, April 25. Registration begins at 11 a.m., and the walk will conclude at about 2 p.m.
The walk will begin on Russell Field at UCD and will take participants through campus and the Arboretum before returning to to the field.
“Our group is the first organization on campus functioning to directly counter the stigma surrounding suicide and depression,” said Briana Megid, co-founder and co-president of Out of the Darkness — Suicide Prevention.
“My primary aim is to start a conversation and ultimately evoke a welcoming atmosphere for those personally suffering from depression, suicidal ideations or the aftermath of having lost a loved one.”
