Summer Solstice SUNday tours canceled

Artists Sofia Lacin and Hennessy Christophel of L/C Mural & Design will be unable to host guided tours of their public art piece, “Same Sun,” at the East Area Water Tank this year, the city of Davis has announced. The event, “Summer Solstice SUNday,” scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled.

The city water tank is east of Mace Boulevard, north of Interstate 80.

In lieu of guided tours, the artists will be working on a short video documenting the messages and process that went into creating “Same Sun.” On Friday, this year’s summer solstice, the artists will release a short clip from the video that captures some of the reactions of the people who took guided tours last June.

Community members can still visit the artwork in late June to see the shadow letters fall into alignment with the letters painted on the tank, visible from outside the tank gates. To learn more about the artwork and view a chart that details the ideal times to view the alignment, visit www.lcmuralanddesign.com.
