“How She Really Does It,” a radio talk show with Koren Motekaitis, airs live from 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays on KDRT, 95.7 FM, or by live webstreaming at www.howshereallydoesit.com.
Peter Motekaitis, coach of Olympians Scott Weltz and Haley Cope and Paralympian Mark Barr, is this week’s guest. Motekaitis has been coaching swimming in Davis since 1984 — he has coached the Davis High School teams, the Aquadarts and UC Davis and is a director of the Davis AquaMonsters.
This summer, Weltz finished fifth in the 200-meter breaststroke at the London Olympic Games. Prior to this summer, Motekaitis coached Barr, who swam in two Paralympics — 2004 (Athens) and 2008 (Beijing) — and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Haley Cope, who was a world champion in 2004.
Motekaitis will discuss the journey to the Olympics and what he believes are the best ways to prepare youths in this community to achieve what is possible for them.
