Davis Media Access’s latest release “From the Vault” highlights “Kathak: Dance from Northern India.”

Produced by Davis resident Lois Richter in 1992, the video features choreography and dancing by Wesley Dutta. In 1993 the piece netted Richter a WAVE Award, a regional award for excellence in community-produced video from the Alliance for Community Media. Richter produced the show through the facilities and with the assistance of staff at Davis Community Television, the forerunner of DMA.

Davis Media Access is a non-profit community media center that has served Davis and environs for more than 25 years, amassing an archive of more than 10,000 locally produced videos. It launched “From the Vault” in October to highlight select programs from archives.

A new “From the Vault” segment launches every two weeks. Each segment will air on DCTV, Channel 15 on Comcast in Davis, Thursdays at 8:30 p.m., and Sundays at 10 p.m. The content also airs on AT&T’s U-verse service at Menu 99, and is profiled across DMA’s social media feeds (@dmafeed on Twitter; davismediaaccess on Instagram; Davis Media Access on Facebook, https://www.youtube.com/user/DavisMediaAccess on YouTube.)

DMA seeks to highlight older programs, in general, though there may be impetus to highlight something more recent if it provides context for a current situation.
