Video documents Davis man’s mountain quest

By From page A4 | December 27, 2013

A 30-minute documentary about a Davis man’s 2013 climb up Denali (Mount McKinley), America’s highest peak, will be screened Sunday, Dec. 29, at the Veterans’ Memorial Theater, 203 E. 14th St. in Davis. The film will be shown twice, at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and snacks will be provided in the lobby beginning at 5 p.m.

Tim Townsend summited Denali on June 7, exactly 100 years after Native Alaskan Walter Harper and three others first set foot on Denali’s summit. Townsend’s video provides some historical context to the 1913 climb as well as detailed footage from this year’s climb.

The summit of Denali also was the final step on a long quest by the Davis resident and his wife, Lisa de Lalla, to reach the highest spot in all 50 states.
