The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation has announced its endorsement of Jesse Ortiz for Yolo County superintendent of schools.

“The Tribal Council believes that Ortiz’s commitment to education and to all students of Yolo County makes him the best choice to be our next Yolo County superintendent,” said Tribal Council secretary James Kinter.

Sarah Martinez, director of education for Yocha Dehe, also lauded Ortiz’s 31 years in public education experience from kindergarten to university.

The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation supports an academy that serves tribal children through a variety of educational programs that are grounded in the tribe’s core values and the teaching of the Patwin language.
