“Manchild in the Wasteland,” a one-man show by Davis’ own Barton Bryan, will be presented later this month at International House, Davis, to raise funds for projects at two orphanages in Tanzania.
The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at I-House, 10 College Park. Tickets are $20 for priority seating, $15 general and $10 for students. For tickets, visit www.letsgotoafrica.com and click on “Davis show.”
In his coming-of-age story, Bryan takes the audience on a roller-coaster ride, beginning with his desire to join the Peace Corps, his struggle to adapt to the realities of living in West Africa, and the dramatic moments that inspire his decision to become a part of the village.
Bryan also portrays Buck, a militant Peace Corps trainer who will give the audience a shocking taste of what to be ready for as a village Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa.
A question-and-answer discussion will follow the performances.
Proceeds will go toward materials to build bunk beds and set up a solar refrigerator at two orphanages in Tanzania. Bryan and four Davis volunteers will travel there in June to do the installation work.
