Art teacher Mary Kaltenbach wanted her young students to get up close and personal with nature. However, rising temperatures made spending time out in a field a bit of a challenge, so she brought nature indoors on Tuesday. Kaltenbach placed sunflowers along with paints and supplies on the tables in the Davis Montessori Country Day School atrium and let her students’ imaginations take over from there. Some students went for realism, painting leaves, stalks and petals, while others were more abstract, going more with glowing orange and red orbs. Sue Cockrell/Enterprise photos
