Yes. You are thinking of Measure P of 2007. It passed by a vote of 73.2% to 26.8%.

Here is what ex-librarian and namesake of our branch of the library, Mary Stephens, said regarding Measure P one month before the vote: "For me the most important thing is to sustain at a minimum sustain the current level of service including hours. The library has been using reserves since about ’92 off and on depending on how the funding came through to make up for the shift of local property taxes by the state."

Supervisor Helen Thomson added that Measure P was designed to maintain the extended open hours: "... the money that will come from the tax measure will help to modernize, rehabilitate, add computers and books, continue the hours that we currently have, give us a more updated look, modernizing, and professionalizing. "

Help me out please. Didn't we pass a ballot measure several years ago to pay more in taxes to keep the library open on Sundays, in part so that everybody, including people who work during the week, would have acces to the library? Doesn't the Sunday closure violate at least the spirit of that ballot measure?
