Carwash raises funds for funeral expenses

By From page A2 | July 25, 2014

Friends and family members of Chris Argumedo, 18, who died Saturday after hitting his head in a fall from a moving car, are hosting a carwash fundraiser Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help his family with funeral costs.

The event will be held in the parking lot of the Davis Joint Unified School District office at Fifth and B streets, across from the Davis Farmers Market.

Donations in any amount will be accepted, and all proceeds will go to the teenager’s family, said organizer Mary Gillis.

But money isn’t the only reason the event is being held, she added. His friends are hoping the community will pull together to help them honor Argumedo’s memory.

“Chris was an organ donor, and even in the aftermath of this tragedy, he was able to help save the lives of others,” Gillis said. “My hope is that Chris’ family will feel the love and support of this wonderful community.”

Volunteers are welcome, she added.

Those who are unable to attend Saturday but who would like to donate may do so online at www.gofundme.com/bwxu6k.
