Chávez event moved to Saturday
Rain canceled the city of Davis’ annual César Chávez celebration last Saturday, and the event has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. this Saturday in Central Park.
The event honors the farm labor leader with free live music, community group displays and other inspirational presentations. It is sponsored by the city of Davis through the Human Relations Commission.
Chávez spoke at rallies in Davis’ Central Park during the tomato growers’ strikes in the 1970s. One rally in Davis on Aug. 11, 1974, was reported to have drawn more than 2,000 attendees.
