A celebration of the conservation work of the Yolo Land Trust will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Hedgerow Farms, at County Roads 88 and 27 in Yolo County.

“Birds, Berries and Bouquets” participants will enjoy strawberry treats, ice cream and Yolo County wines, along with walking tours to see Hedgerow Farms’ native plant assemblages and view the wide variety of birds, native pollinators and other beneficial insects that are attracted to the farm.

“Bring your binoculars and friends and enjoy the bouquets of spring in the country,” said Mary Kimball, Yolo Land Trust Board President.

The fundraiser will also celebrate the Yolo Land Trust’s 23 years of farmland conservation. The Yolo Land Trust has conserved 51 parcels of farmland for a total of nearly 9,000 acres of agricultural land, riparian corridors and Swainson’s hawk habitat in Yolo County permanently conserved. These farms remain in private ownership and on Yolo County’s tax rolls.

John and Marsha Anderson, owners of Hedgerow Farms, will host the “Birds, Berries and Bouquets” celebration at their home. Hedgerow Farms produces California native grasses, sedges, rushes and forbs seeds and plants. The Andersons are well known for their innovative strategies in farmland habitat restoration, landscaping and environmental education.

“John and I have been supporters of the Yolo Land Trust for many years,” said Marsha Anderson. “As a board member, I am delighted to invite the community to Hedgerow Farms to celebrate the good works of the Yolo Land Trust.”
