Coming together

By From page A5 | January 31, 2012

Hamza El-Nakhal, at right, of the Islamic Center of Davis, watches Manasa Malek wash the hands of Fr. Arsanious Nady of St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church of
Roseville during the ninth annual Celebration of Abraham on Sunday at St. James
Catholic Church Memorial Center. The washing of another’s hands is a symbolic
ritual at the interfaith event. “Hope” was this year’s theme. Participants, sitting at round tables, had the opportunity to share their ideas with their neighbors by
answering questions meant to spark discussion. Participants broke loaves of bread together and washed each other’s hands as symbols of respect and connection. Fred Gladdis/Enterprise photos
