Ballots left to be counted in local elections

A total of 4,826 absentee votes have yet to be counted from Tuesday’s election, according to Freddie Oakley, Yolo County clerk/recorder. However, Oakley does not know how many of those votes are from Davis or how greatly they will affect the City Council election results.

As it stands, incumbent Councilman Dan Wolk received the most votes, with 8,708. Lucas Frerichs was second with 5,827 votes, Brett Lee third with 5,368, Sue Greenwald fourth with 5,138 and Stephen Souza fifth with 4,880.

The Elections Office also has 975 provisional ballots still to count.

Any absentee ballots dropped off at the polls the day of the election must be counted manually, which prolongs the certification process.

The Yolo County Elections Office expects to have the final certified tally finished by Friday. The three winning council members are scheduled to be sworn in at the July 10 meeting.

Should the order of finish remain the same, Souza and Greenwald’s last meeting would be June 26.
