A diversity advocate from the Southern Poverty Law Center will be the keynote speaker at the city of Davis’ 18th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Monday.
The event kicks begins 11:30 a.m. at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St. in downtown Davis. Admission is free. All community members, including children of all ages, are invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Davis Human Relations Commission.
Lecia Brooks will highlight the celebration as the keynote speaker. She is the outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., and gives presentations around the country to promote tolerance and diversity.
Several local speakers are planned, along with music by the Patwin Elementary School Choir and Dick Holdstock and the Davis Freedom Singers.
At 1 p.m., all will be invited to participate in a short Freedom March through downtown Davis.
