I think the Occupy Davis movement was cool. As a young person I learned a lot about how democracy is supposed to work from talking in class about the occupiers. I learned that civil disobedience is sometimes necessary when your government stops listening to the majority of the people and only listens to some of the rich people’s ideas. I also thought it was cool when some rich people even said that they wanted to be taxed more to give their fair share back to the country that helped them succeed. It makes me feel proud and safe that the adults in this country want to make sure this will be a good country for all kids to grow up in. Thank you to the Davis Occupiers!

Two nights of below freezing temps and they scamper for a hot cup of Chai tea by the fire and a warm bed. I hope the New York OWS crowd has a little more in the way of cajones.

We all knew when this started in September that they wouldn’t make it thru the winter. Now they can withdrawl while declaring victory (much like Nixon did.) Oh, the irony….

Sorry, but they weren’t speaking for me. They created a mess in the park and an intrusion for others whose park is is also. The time they wasted camping and killing the grass would have been better spent looking for a job. They changed nothing and imo soured more people on the Occupy movement and showed how ridiculous any statement they were trying to make is.

I’m surprised by the comments here. For goodness sakes, the campers have simply been standing up to social inequities and a power imbalance that are egregious and have to stop. Period. I completely agree with the organizers, however, that it’s time to shift into a new phase of the movement, that camping out interminably is untenable and unnecessary. The point’s been raised (many points), now let’s get to work. I’m glad to see people out of the cold, returning to their lives and working on what’s next. I have been incredibly grateful to the campers for their acts of civil disobedience on our collective behalves, and their willingness to make a statement against the injustices that affect us all. I’ve felt uncomfortably guilty at their actions on my behalf, while I go about my daily business. I’m completely unable to camp out in a park. My contributions have been limited to a little money, social media commentary, and a lot of psychic support, but nothing on the order of their sacrifice. I hope the next phase includes actions more people can reasonably participate in. I say thanks to the campers. Now go get warm.
