The city of Davis seeks residents to serve on three commissions:
* Civic Arts (two seats): Advises the City Council on all maters relating to cultural arts; meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month;
* Senior Citizens (one seat): Advises the City Council on all matters relating to policies and programs that will serve senior citizens in the community; meets at 2:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month; and
* Historical Resources Management (two seats): Advises the City Council on matters pertaining to historical resources, maintains an inventory of historical resources, recommends the designation of historical resources and reviews applications for alteration permits for historical structures; meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month.
This commission is recruiting applicants with special interest, competence, experience or knowledge in historic preservation and the cultural heritage of Davis and professional qualifications in such fields as architecture, history, architectural history, prehistoric and historic archeology, urban planning, law, real estate, folklore, museum curation, conservation, landscape architecture, American studies and cultural geography.
“By serving on a city commission, you can participate in local government and help plan the future of Davis,” a news release said. “Commissions serve as a conduit for citizen input — a way of gathering, analyzing and recommending options to the City Council.
“Commissions provide an important avenue for determining the community’s feelings about various issues and extending the reach of the democratic process.”
The deadline to apply is Nov. 21. Only Davis residents are eligible.
Applications are available at the city clerk’s office at City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd., Suite 4, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, online at www.cityofdavis.org/cmo/commapp.cfm or by calling (530) 757-5648 (an application can be mailed or emailed to interested residents).
Applicants are invited to include a résumé or other information to help the City Council in the selection process. All applications and accompanied documents are considered public information and may be disclosed/released pursuant to the California Public Records Act.
Applications are submitted to City Council for appointment at a regular council meeting; appointments are tentatively scheduled for Dec. 6.
