WAC to make recommendation on fluoridation

By From page A5 | June 26, 2013

After listening to two meetings worth of heated debate between community members about the pros and cons of adding fluoride to the city’s drinking water, the Water Advisory Committee finally will sit down Thursday and make its recommendation to the City Council on the matter.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Chambers of City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd. It can be viewed live on Comcast Channel 16 or At&T U-Verse Channel 99. It also will stream live on the city’s website at www.cityofdavis.org/media.

If the water committee, and subsequently the council, approve adding fluoride to the city’s drinking water, the city would have to add it to both the Sacramento River surface water supply that will come through the Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency project starting in 2016 and the existing ground well water supply.

While it’s unclear where the vote will end up within the water committee, one piece of information that has yet to emerge is the associated cost. Staff will present that information to the group Thursday.

The City Council is not expected to rule on the matter until after they return from their summer recess, which ends in August.
