Times are tight: Businesses are closing, people are still losing their homes and many need help to buy food or pay for basic necessities.
“My heart aches for our neighbors who are struggling through these difficult times,” says the Rev. Exter Hardy, pastor of Pole Line Baptist Church, who has served in Davis for more than 21 years. “I kept praying and asking God what we could do to help. We are not a wealthy church, but we have a lot of love to give.”
It was out of this prayer time that Hardy came up with the idea of hosting a free location for a yard sale for Davis residents, and the church embraced his idea.
“We have the space and a great location and it wouldn’t cost us that much,” Hardy says.
So Pole Line Road Baptist Church decided to host a free yard sale, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the church, 770 Pole Line Road. Any resident of Davis can call the church and reserve a free space on the site for the yard sale.
The church is providing the space, the advertisement and some refreshments. Residents are selling their own items; the church is only providing a centralized location to do that.
“We just want our community to know we care and we are here for them in their time of need,” Hardy said. “Join us … and help your neighbor make a buck, and you can save a buck on the bargains.”
Hardy emphasized that this is not a fundraiser for the church, and the church is not looking for donations. This is strictly a way to help neighbors out.
For more information, call the church at 530-753-4315, email [email protected] or stop by the office between 8 a.m. and noon Mondays to Fridays to fill out a space reservation form, which is required to participate.
