On March 30, the Yolo County Fair Board hosted its seventh annual olive oil competition, receiving 143 entries from 61 producers from throughout California.
Competition included olive oils from extra virgin, flavored and organic with intensities of delicate, medium and robust. The fair awards gold, silver and bronze medals as well as Best in Class and Best in Show prizes. Winners in each category will be displayed at the Yolo County Fair, Aug. 17-21, as well as online at http://www.yolocountyfair.net.

* Lucero Olive LLC, Corning — Sevillano (delicate intensity)
* Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company, Fairfield — Frantoio (medium intensity)
* Vine Ray Farms, Woodland — Tuscan Blend (robust intensity)
Yolo County Resident: Vine Ray Farms, Woodland — Tuscan Blend
Flavored Oil: Sutter Buttes Olive Ranch, Sutter — Blood Orange
Organic Olive Oil: Katz Rock Hill Ranch, Napa — Other Blends
The Patty Bogle-Roncoroni Award was created this year in memory of Patty, a member of the Yolo County Fair Board and co-chair of this competition with her husband, Ernie Roncoroni. Representing the best of the winners from all other categories, it was awarded to Katz Rock Hill Ranch in Napa for its organic other blend.
