Are you having problems with your phone bill, or your computer?
The Woodland Senior Center Computer Club will address both topics at its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Monday at the Woodland Senior and Community Center, 2001 East St. Admission is free to any resident of Yolo County.
The featured speaker will be Tisha Araluz, from the Telecommunications Education & Assistance in Multiple Languages program (TEAM), who will explain how to spot fraudulent charges, save money on phone bills and how to qualify for discounted rates available to individuals with limited income.
The TEAM program has been working with the California Public Utilities Commission for the past three years and is the only community-based organization in the greater Sacramento area to offer user education to people with limited proficiency in English, seniors, disabled veterans and others who may not know how best to advocate for themselves regarding telephone issues.
Following the speaker, Shirley Leeper and Bud Lafayette will answer questions about computer problems the audience members may be experiencing.
Membership is $12 per year on a prorated basis; members participate in a drawing for prizes or gift certificates. The club’s annual Fourth of July ice cream social will be on the agenda for the business meeting following the program.
Newly elected officers include Leeper, president; Kathleen Schultz, vice president; Sue Ahlquist, secretary; Jan Putnam, treasurer; Arnell Sanford, membership; Barbara Grady, education; Jill Brooks, publicity; LaFayette, lab equipment; and Tim Errington, webmaster.
The club sponsors open computer lab sessions at the Senior Center every Friday from noon to 3 p.m. for anyone in Yolo County age 18 or over. The fee is $1, plus 5 cents per copy, to cover expenses. An experienced computer user is present to offer assistance.
