Julia Van Horn, a budding musician inspired by the Brazilian music and American folk harmonies that surrounded her growing up in Davis, is the featured performer at the first 2012 meeting of the Village Homes Performers Circle.
The event runs from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at the Village Homes Community Center, 2661 Portage Bay Ave. East.
Her first time as the featured performer, Van Horn will share a contemporary folk sound in solo performances on guitar and vocals, covering artists ranging from Fallulah to Marisa Monte, as well as an original or two.
The show also will feature vibrant harmonies from vocalists Kat Bowden and Scarlet Huber, rich and soulful fiddling from Carol Hillhouse, lively Brazilian guitar from longtime collaborator Ricardo Heres, and sensitively versatile mandolin from Jan Peters.
This free event features performers of all levels and creative expressions, and takes place on the fourth Monday of each month (except December). Sign-up begins at 6:45, with sign-up performances from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Featured acts perform from 8:30 to 9 p.m.
