Since April of 2012, some 375 Davis households have been participating in a statewide competition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These households have kept Davis firmly in the lead.
Last month, Cool California extended the competition and added some new team-building capabilities to its website. Now, participants can invite their friends and neighbors to join their team and compete together. The competition has been extended through May 31, with participants recording their final results when they receive their June utility bills.
There is still time left to join for the first time and boost Davis’ points. The winning city will be awarded the title of “Coolest California City” in June. Meanwhile, participants are encouraged to go back and get all their energy use and odometer readings recorded, upload reports of their energy bills and record other “kudos” actions that earn lots of points.
If you’d like some help with updating your Cool California record or to sign up for the first time, stop by the Cool Davis booth at Picnic in the Park on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Central Park, Fourth and C streets.
Prizes will be available for participants who can prove to Cool Davis that they have completed the Cool California Challenge survey. Bring a screen shot or show your Cool California profile page with your “official contributor” notice in the survey box, and choose from a Cool Davis T-shirt, LED light bulb, clothesline or other prize.
All participants will be entered into a final drawing at the end of the competition for some special prizes.
