The first 48 hours of the Memorial Day weekend yielded a high number of arrests for impaired driving in Yolo County, authorities reported this morning.
From 12:01 a.m. Friday through midnight Saturday, officers representing eight Yolo County law-enforcement agencies have arrested at least seven people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said Davis police Sgt. Rod Rifiredi, coordinator of the county’s “Avoid the 8″ DUI task force.
A traffic collision in Woodland that resulted in two injuries remains under investigation but is believed to be alcohol-related, Rifredi said.
Law-enforcement agencies will continue their DUI patrol efforts throughout the county and region until midnight on Monday, Rifredi said. Today, extra DUI saturation patrols are being deployed in the cities of Davis, Woodland, Winters, West Sacramento and in the unincorporated areas of Yolo County.
The California Highway Patrol also has all available officers patrolling freeways and county roads throughout the weekend. Motorists are encouraged to call 911 to report suspected drunk drivers.
