Coroner: Alcohol caused homeless man’s death

By From page A3 | January 20, 2013

Alcoholism, and not the cold, caused the death of a homeless man whose body was found underneath a Woodland freeway overpass last week, Yolo County coroner’s officials said.

James Michael Izarelli, 61, died of liver failure brought on by alcohol abuse, Chief Deputy Coroner Robert LaBrash said following an autopsy conducted last week. His body was found Monday morning during the recent cold snap, covered in blankets beneath southbound Interstate 5 on the north side of East Main Street.

LaBrash said his deputies are still trying to track down Izarelli’s next of kin. Anyone with information about his family‚Äôs whereabouts is urged to call the coroner’s office at 530-668-5292.
