Crafters plan spoof of Internet meme at fair

By From page A4 | November 21, 2012

The monthly Square Tomatoes Craft Fair is moving to Central Park starting Sunday, featuring an expanded group of vendors, food booths and live music.

A special treat this month will be “Square Tomatoes Style,” a spoof of the Internet meme “Gangnam Style,” scheduled for 1 p.m. and featuring vendors and volunteers as dancers. Sally Parker’s Davis-centric lyrics can be found online at SquareTomatoesCrafts.com.

“Square Tomatoes Style” is not the first redo of “Gangnam Style” in Davis. UC Davis chemistry professor Bryan Enderle led his class in a Halloween-themed dance and Gunrock, the Aggies’ mascot, is featured in his own video, found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUklhkoCOkk.

At the November craft fair, Monica Riche will teach guests how to make custom gift boxes and greeting cards, musician Ken Kemmerling will perform and food vendors will set up shop. In deference to services at the nearby Davis Community Church, no microphone will be used until 11:30 a.m.
