A high-speed pursuit through Davis led to the arrest of a Vacaville man Wednesday on vehicle theft and other charges, police said.

The incident began shortly after 4 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop a car for unspecified vehicle-code violations on Richards Boulevard near Interstate 80. Sgt. Frank Tenedora said the driver failed to yield and instead initiated a pursuit onto eastbound I-80.

After a chase that reached speeds up to 90 mph, the driver exited at Mace Boulevard, continuing along surface streets before crashing near the Days Inn on Chiles Road, Tenedora said. Officers apprehended the driver near the crash scene.

Houston Ray Howell, 28, was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of evading, reckless driving, resisting arrest and vehicle theft, Tenedora said. The car had been reported stolen out of Woodland.
