Bail posted in Davis beating case
The suspect in a Davis hate-crime assault is no longer in Yolo County Jail custody, less than a day after a Yolo Superior Court official increased his bail to $520,000.
Clayton Daniel Garzon, 20, is due back in court April 12 for a pre-hearing conference. He has pleaded not guilty to battery, assault and criminal threats charges stemming from the March 10 beating of 32-year-old Lawrence “Mikey” Partida.
The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office has filed hate-crime enhancements in the case, alleging that Garzon targeted Partida because of his sexual orientation. Garzon’s attorney, Linda Parisi, said in court Wednesday that the alleged slurs were common slang.
On Wednesday, Commissioner Janene Beronio ordered Garzon under intensive supervision if released on bail. He must abstain from alcohol and avoid contacting Partida, and must wear devices that track his whereabouts as well as any alcohol consumption.
Garzon also is free on bail in a Solano County assault case in which he’s accused of stabbing several people at a Dixon house party last September. A preliminary hearing has been set for mid-May.
